The Palau de les Arts has a striking design by Santiago Calatrava. It resembles a series of interlocking shapes within an envelope in the shape of a shell, originally covered with immaculate white trencadís (a type of mosaic made out of ceramic shards). Although part of this covering came away in the winter of 2013-14, restoration work has now been completed and this arts centre is now able to run its regular programme of events here.
