This is the most authentic and historical of Tashkent's markets. Beneath the giant dome, which was constructed in the Soviet era and is more reminiscent of a flying saucer than an oriental souk, people haggle over spices, dried fruit and meat. In spring, the array of melons, pomegranates and persimmons overflows, with vendors even selling goods from the boots of their cars. An entertaining daily spectacle, at which you can sample all the riches of the Fergana Valley.
