Seldom visited due to its isolated location, this Vishnu temple was built in the same style and period as Angkor Wat. The harmonious proportions, general style of the central prasat (tower) and sandstone edifices with their baluster windows and the two "libraries" flanking the entrance passageway all reinforce this similarity. The sanctuary used to be connected to the vast eastern baray (reservoir) by a 350m/1000ft causeway. It has distinctive high walls: banteay meaning citadel.
