They bear witness to the expansion of the city of Périgueux in the 18C and 19C. As he did in Bordeaux, the intendant Louis de Tourny invested the old town with a more spacious appearance in 1743 on, taking advantage of the dismantling of the ramparts. Imposing buildings were subsequently erected, such as the law courts and the Musée du Périgord. The Allées de Tourny, planted with plane trees, are lined with private mansions dating from the 18C and 19C. The belvedere at the end of the promenade affords a beautiful view of the city and the river.
