Ice began to form in the Dachstein Cave 500 years ago. In the spring, when the snow melts, the layer of ice, which sometimes gets as thick as 25m, continues to grow by 2-3cm a year. You enter the cave via the Tropfsteinhalle – the stalagmite hall. The ice formations transport you to another world. The layer of ice is thickest in Tristan Cathedral.
