The Treasure Museum exhibits some precious artefacts from Tosho-gu. At the entrance to the corridor leading to Tokugawa Ieyasu's tomb is the famous Nemuri neko, carved below the lintel of the door. The Sleeping Cat is in fact listening to the pair of birds carved behind him, on the other side of the door. This unusual cohabitation illustrates the peaceful wishes for his country that the shogun voiced before his death. Located some 200 steps higher, his tomb stands at the end of a stone path sheltered by magnificent cedar trees (sugi).
