The Western architecture of the True Light Church feels incongruous in the middle of the Japanese habitat. Originally built of wood in 1899, it was rebuilt in 1914 with dark stone. JM Gardiner, an American missionary and architect, designed it in a Gothic style with a wooden frame. Dark and massive on the outside, its interior is bright, thanks to its many stained-glass windows, white walls and a rood screen carved out of light wood. It is the oldest church in the northern Kanto region.
