This hilltop basilica, a place of pilgrimage that gets very busy during religious festivals, is perched at an altitude of 3,152m. While the edifice itself is of little interest, the first chapel on the lower left-hand side sports a small, late-18C red and gold baroque altar, home to a black Virgin. Behind the basilica is a small market selling religious items and beyond the eateries, a viewing point overlooking the opposite slope of the wooded mountain. Access is on foot, by funicular railway or cable car.
