The vast Maria-Theresien-Platz stands between two gigantic, symmetrical buildings, the Kunsthistorisches Museum and its twin, the Naturhistorisches Museum. The 20m-high statue of Maria Theresa has stood here since 1888, a tribute to the great empress created by Caspar Zumbusch. At her feet are the equestrian statues of her illustrious generals, as well as her most eminent servants and the great composers of her reign.
