Vaux fort occupies a strategic position overlooking the Plaine de Woëvre, with views of the ossuary and Fort Douaumont. Now one of the symbols of French courage during the Battle of Verdun, the fort was captured by the Germans on 7 June 1916 despite the heroic defence of the French garrison. Five months later, the fort was recovered by General Mangin. Inside the building, visitors can experience the living conditions of the soldiers who were under siege here.
