The church is famous as it houses an important painting by El Greco: The Burial of the Count of Orgaz. This work, painted in 1586, recalls the miracle of the appearance of St Augustine and St Stephen, who came to bury the Count of Orgaz themselves. The talent of the artist resides in the contrasts of colour and light, which bring out the faces and hands, and the feeling he creates of the figures' contemplation.
