The Church of the Panagia Evangelistria is a fine neo-Classical building constructed between 1820 and 1830 on the site of a Byzantine church. The discovery of a supposedly miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary made this a pilgrimage destination. The venerated icon is displayed in the nave (on the left upon entering), bejewelled and bearing ex-voto offerings. Below the church is the cavern where it was found.
