The Count of Mercy built a citadel on the right bank of the River Bega, of which all that remains is a bastion. The streets and squares laid out within its walls now form the historic centre, which is largely the realm of pedestrians and cyclists (of which there are very few for the moment), making the visit very pleasant. It is best explored starting from the river banks of the Bega, which have been turned into a lovely riverside walk.
