The lock at Saint-Lambert is the first lock of the massive St. Lawrence Seaway system. It raises and lowers vessels 4.6m, enabling them to bypass the treacherous rapids upstream from Montreal harbour. From the lock's observatory, visitors can watch enormous lakers pass through the lock on their way to the Great Lakes or to Port-Cartier and Sept-Îles.
