This museum complex is spread over three religious buildings in close proximity to each other. The Santo André convent houses two exhibitions, one dedicated to natural history and the other to the history of the convent itself. The Santa Bárbara convent, located below, hosts a variety of temporary exhibitions. The Igreja do Colégio dos Jesuitas houses the sacred art collection of the Museo Machado (Núcleo de Arte Sacra), the centrepiece of which is the superb, richly sculpted nave dominating the altar.
