For safety reasons, tourists are advised to avoid this region. In New Granada, it was common to find small roadside oratories intended for travellers at the entrance and exit of towns. In Pamplona, one of these oratories was constructed on the road to Chopo, or Pamplonita. This pretty church with whitewashed walls, one of the loveliest in the area, offers a fine view over the city. Inside, the Christ on the Cross (Cristo del Humilladero), a 16C Spanish sculpture shows a very life-like representation of Christ.
