Don't be fooled by this museum's Modernist façade: its porch gives onto a cobbled courtyard lined by smart 15C-17C houses. One of these, a splendid red half-timbered building (1646) is home to a fascinating exhibition charting the history of Odense, from its founding around 900 to the Renaissance, its golden age. The modern annexe houses temporary exhibitions and a museum on the history of Fyn (Funen), Denmark's third-largest island.
