Slightly apart from the palace of Mália, the former craft district represents a genuine Proto-palatial village. Visitors can walk down lane after lane, overlooking the excavations. The outskirts are made up of tight maze of religious buildings and houses, many of which have well-preserved basements and ground-floors, plastered walls and tiled floors. Some workshops have been identified thanks to objects and tools found inside.
