The Baroque Ludwigslust castle was built from 1772 to 1776 and already has some Classical-style features. The brick façade is covered with Pirna sandstone. Inside, the colours white and gold dominate in the rooms, which are decorated in torsade style. The paintings above the doors depict landscapes and animals, and the furniture is original. The Golden Hall, restored in 2016, has ornamentation made from papier-mâché to look like marble.
