This beautiful cathedral with a Pisan Romanesque-style façade in green and white marble is a masterpiece of harmony, in which the austere Pisan style has been replaced with charmingly inventive ornamentation. In the Gothic interior, don't miss the tempietto housing the Volto Santo, a copy of a miraculous statue of Christ whose arrival in Lucca is celebrated with the luminaria di Santa Croce. Also worthy of note is the superb tomb of Ilaria del Carretto, the wife of Paolo Guinigi, who died in 1405.
