Fortaleza Real Felipe is an impressive 18C fortress. Reputed to be impregnable, it kept at bay pirates in the 18C, then the Spanish, who had themselves built it during Peru's War of Independence. Take the time to walk round its ramparts between the moat and cannons, then visit the Museo Histórico Militar, which houses some fine weapons.
