A street that sees lots of action in the evenings, rue de Gand is renowned for its many restaurants. It climbs slightly towards the Porte de Gand, which was built during the Spanish occupation then enlarged by Vauban in 1670. This rather austere gatehouse has lost some features but is still integrated into the city walls; it now houses a gourmet restaurant upstairs.
