The whitewashed walls, towers and turrets of this castle standing above the waters of Lake Vänern are reminiscent of a fairytale castle. It was here that Count Magnus Gabriel de la Gardie built a Baroque palace on the site of old buildings in the 17C. He embellished the apartments and had the ceilings painted. Once their work on the castle was completed, the artists, who came to be known as the Läckö school, also decorated the surrounding churches.
