From the top of Monte da Guia, near the hermitage of Nossa Senhora da Guia, you can see the Caldera do Inferno, an ancient crater that has been invaded by the sea. On the way back down the road, the view of the town and Pico is superb. From the beach car park, the fragrant slopes of Monte Queimado lead to other viewpoints.
