In the 14C, the Danish erected this imposing keep in an oval-shaped castle, hence its name (almond in Swedish). The 34m-high keep with thick walls and an external stair tower is the only vestige of the fortress that was destroyed around 1680. From the terrace (146 steps), the view takes in Elsinore from the other side of the strait and the island of Ven a little further south.
