In 1965, the USS Massachusetts battleship, nicknamed Big Mamie, dropped anchor at Fall River to pay tribute to the 13,000 Massachusetts men and women who gave their lives in service to their country during World War II. Since then, several other naval ships have joined the USS Massachusetts on the waterfront, including the PT Boat 796, the submarine USS Lionfish and the destroyer USS Joseph P. Kennedy, among others. All are open to the public.
