For two centuries, the "iron mountain" was defined by its open-cast mine, cut in layers ranging from 12m to 24m in height. Its summit has resultantly shrunk from 1 532m to 1 465m. Mining ceased in 1986, and the former workings are open to visitors. The tour uses 860hp Hauly trucks, making for a memorable visit. This open-top journey offers fantastic views over the waters of the lake and the town.
