The museum's appeal is enhanced by the setting, in the crypts of the town hall, with their 14C red sandstone Gothic vaulting. Note a 15C painting on wood depicting the Last Judgement, the replica of a famous marble statue of the Madonna and Child, and 15C-16C armour. The Romanesque-style room has a 15C chandelier made of deer antlers and gold and silverplate. The Aldermen's Room includes finely carved wooden furniture.
