Made into a leisure area for young and old in 2016, the grounds and woodland of Dalkeith House belong to Buccleuch Estate. With the River North Esk and River South Esk running through, it constitutes a magnificent playground for walking and cycling, and adventures in the Fort Douglas playground... All with a view over Dalkeith House (closed), a 1708 reconstruction of the old Douglas Castle, which was built in the Dutch neo-Palladian style.
