This popular tour can be followed on foot or by motorbike. Leaving Sapa, the track winds its way downhill through an area of vegetable gardens and then along terraced rice fields extending in every direction. A stone flight of steps leads to Cat Cat, a Hmong village of around 20 houses which owes its name to a nearby waterfall. A small hydroelectric station was installed on the Muong Hoa river by the French in 1925.
