The Parque de los Periodistas is a vast brick-paved space that invites visitors to sit down and rest a while under the watchful eye of Simón Bolívar. At its centre is the Templete del Libertador, a pavilion made in 1883 by Italian sculptor Pietro Cantini (1847-1929) to commemorate the centenary of the birth of El Libertador. On Sundays a small flea market is set up opposite this public garden.
