This huge cube tucked away in the Basel suburbs is worth seeking out for its futuristic architecture by Herzog & de Meuron. Neither museum nor warehouse, the Schaulager houses the works of the Emmanuel Hoffmann foundation and only opens for temporary exhibitions. Avant-garde installations are ideally displayed in spacious immaculate rooms. Visit the bookshop and bar, strangely reminiscent of the Moloko Bar in A Clockwork Orange.
