From the top of the observation tower, visitors can take in the species populating Shaumari Reserve. The Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature established a protected area with a view to reintroducing animals that had disappeared from the Jordanian desert. The white-coated Arabian oryx has come to symbolise the initiative, which has been a great success; today, some 200 individuals live in the reserve. Visitors can also see Persian onagers, ostriches and imperial eagles, for instance.
