Like its big sister, to which it is linked via Rue de la Taillerie, the Place des Héros sports a fine Flemish architectural unity. Dominated by the town hall belfry, it is livelier than the Grand'Place; the locals continue to call it the Small Square, even though it was renamed after 1945. Some of the facades still bear old carved signs indicating their former owner's trade or activity (cereals, textiles, cauldrons or sheathes of wheat). A market takes place here on Wednesday mornings.
