The Gold Fish Park was laid out in the 6C for the pleasure of the royal family. It is testament to the quest to harmoniously reconcile nature and architecture. The proximity of the Tissa Wewa reservoir lake meant a ready water supply, via an aqueduct and a set of channels and waterfalls leading to three basins; these were decorated with low-relief sculptures, including a group of elephants playing among the lotuses. Water no longer flows through the pools, but the setting amid the rice fields is idyllic.
