This district, which begins south of the Fashion Museum near the River Scheldt, has seen periods of both prosperity and decline. Since the early 1980s the opening of the Museum of Photography and the Museum of Contemporary Art in two old warehouses here has given it a much-needed boost. This trendy district is also striking for its unusually shaped buildings and innovative bars and restaurants. The next stage of the development will see the Zuiderdokken transformed into Antwerp's own "Central Park".
