The owners of this gassho-zukuri-style inn, dating from 1868, enjoy welcoming guests and visitors. On the ground-floor are the main living areas around the hearth, complete with a whistling kettle and a Buddhist altar. Upstairs the impressive timber frame, erected without a single nail, provides the setting for an exhibition devoted to silk worms, tools and old photos that depict daily life and festivals in this mountain village that used to be entirely isolated.
