Block Island is home to many protected open spaces, among which a delightful nature trail, maintained by the Nature Conservancy, part of which is called The Maze, because of its many ramifications. 3.5-miles long, it takes you through undergrowth to a small swamp, then near to a beach before heading up to clay buffs, which command fine ocean views. In early summer, this moderately easy walk is a riot of wildflowers and in the fall, it is renowned for its migrating songbirds.
