The long island is dominated by the volcano that gives it its name. Playing hide-and-seek with the clouds, sometimes hidden, sometimes ‘crushing’ the central archipelago in all its splendour, this mountain is mesmerising! Its cave-pierced flanks, covered with meadows and lakes and criss-crossed by a fascinating wine-growing landscape, slope down to a coastline of tortured black rock. Here you'll find a number of quiet farming and fishing villages, which in summer are approached by some of the world's largest cetaceans. Hiking to the summit, wine and whales - that's the charm of Pico.
